Brown University SEG Communications and Outreach VISTA

The Brown University AmeriCorps VISTA Fellowship is a full-time service opportunity hosted through the Swearer Center at Brown University. Founded by Brown University President, Howard R. Swearer, The Swearer Center for Public Service is a community of scholars, students, practitioners, and community members that work together to build on community strengths and address community challenges. Through the creative capacities of our students, faculty, and community partners we explore, build, and implement collaborative and strategic projects, programs, and initiatives. Our work yields transformative learning and positive sustainable change through collective action. Interested applicants apply for a VISTA position at a local partner organization, state agency, or Swearer Center department to build capacity in organizations fighting poverty. Current external Brown University AmeriCorps VISTA placement sites include: Beat the Streets Providence, Breakthrough Providence, House of Hope Community Development Corporation, Inspiring Minds, Providence After School Alliance, Providence Public Library, Social Enterprise Greenhouse (SEG), and Youth In Action. The SEG Communications and Outreach VISTA member will work with staff to increase scale and reach of the communications in new and existing program geographies to the target audience. The VISTA will assess the current communications process, develop a modular communications plan, and support cross-team collaboration and greater sustainability in SEG's marketing efforts. The VISTA member will research best practices regarding non-profit marketing, communications, and social media plans. The VISTA will be responsible for creating a social media calendar, managing social media accounts, and developing a new format of venture profile used to highlight businesses in SEG's network.
