ShareCorps - BBBS Butler Co. - Mentor Recruitment Strategist

Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Butler County creates and supports one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. We do this through a nationally recognized, evidence-based mentoring model that pairs caring mentors with disadvantaged and at-risk youth ages 6 to 18. Our mentoring programs include a career-focused program for teens, activity-based programs for mentors and youth who have shared interests in activities like sports and the arts, and site-based mentoring programs for young children in elementary schools. Young people who have access to a mentor through Big Brothers Big Sisters improve their academic performance, have better relationships with family and peers, have higher self-esteem and future aspirations, and make healthier choices regarding risky behaviors like drug and alcohol use. Each year, we serve 300 youth from across Butler County through our mentoring programs, and 70 more who are waiting for a mentor.

Member Duties : The VISTA member will increase the capacity of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Butler County to successfully recruit volunteers for youth who are waiting for a mentor. The VISTA member will analyze the agency's current volunteer recruitment processes and activities, as well as engage with existing and prospective volunteers to gain insight into what the agency is doing right and what could be improved. The member's work will culminate in a thorough, concise report that will demonstrate the efficiency and effectiveness of the agency's current methods and will recommend specific action steps and recruitment strategies that will equip the agency to successfully recruit volunteer mentors for years to come.
