Nazareth Housing Development Coordinator 2021 VISTA

The VISTA member’s work will build the capacity of Nazareth Housing to alleviate poverty by helping to maintain the low income client family’s largest asset – their home. Nazareth’s partnership with the City of Akron allows HUD funds to be used, at no cost to the homeowner or renter, to remove dangerous lead paint from the home and to address other healthy home issues. Exposure to dangerous lead paint can seriously harm a child’s health, in deep and long lasting ways, from damage to delicate developing systems to causing learning/behavior problems. Low income families are super-exposed to lead by their need for affordable housing. Our project directly reduces this risk. The work conducted by the VISTA will have the impact of providing a high quality, well organized program of lead hazard reduction for low income families with young children. The VISTA will review our existing procedures & documentation and create necessary improvements to our systems for our units on which Lead Abatement work is performed. The VISTA will have primary responsibility for data management of the Lead program during their year of service. The VISTA will assist in identifying and will train at least one Volunteer to take over data input at end of VISTA’s service. The VISTA will conduct the same review & create necessary improvements to our systems for Temporary Relocation services to families having work performed on their home by the City of Akron. The VISTA will create a video for virtually showing the Temporary Relocation sites. The VISTA will create policies and a manual to improve management of Temporary Relocation sites. The VISTA will also assist with review of the relative merits of Nazareth adding Lead Risk Assessments to its stable of services; create a schedule of maintenance tasks for Nazareth owned homes and help create a system of shared communication between Nazareth’s Clients/Tenants.
