Renaissance Charter Schools Student Information Specialist

The Renaissance Charter School (TRCS) is a PK-12 community charter school located in Jackson Heights, Queens, New York. Our school was founded by educators, parents and community leaders concerned about the future of New York City. Renaissance is based on the conviction that a change in the destiny of a single individual can lead to a change in the destiny of a community, nation, and ultimately humankind. Its mission as a PK-12 school is to foster educated, responsible, humanistic young leaders who will through their own personal growth spark a renaissance in New York. Its graduates will be global citizens with an abiding respect for peace, human rights, the environment, and sustainable development. As one of New York City’s oldest and most successful charter schools, we are in our 28th year of educating the youth of our city, starting as a small alternative school within the NYC Department of Education in 1993, and converting to charter status in 2000. In September, 2020 we opened our second school in a nearby neighborhood. In March of 2020 our school shut its doors, along with all the other schools in New York City, for what we hoped was a few weeks of abundant caution to combat the Corona Virus. As the world now knows, that quickly morphed into a dangerous and deadly world-wide health crisis. Jackson Heights, Queens became the “epi-center of the epicenter” in New York City, and our students’ lives were forever changed by the toll the pandemic took on their families lives, and their own mental health in the struggle to resume their education remotely. At the same time, TRCS was launching a brand-new student information system. Not only was the school learning unfamiliar technology to teach our students, administrators and teachers were having to learn a new way to track attendance and grading. Most importantly, however, we were learning how to maintain strong family and student connections, using our technology to track student engagement and progress.
