By serving as the Stewardship Assistant, you’ll gain valuable skills in land management, easement stewardship, and conservation field work while directly contributing to the future of the Long Trail and the protection of the Green Mountains. The mission of GMC is to make the Vermont Mountains play a larger part in the life of the people by protecting and maintaining the Long Trail System and fostering, through education, the stewardship of Vermont’s hiking trails and mountains. The position will steward the lands along the Long Trail and Appalachian Trail in Vermont and safeguard their conservation values, manage outdoor recreation resources, and develop land management records. The Stewardship Assistant will serve directly with GMC Conservation Manager to monitor conservation easements, maintain property boundaries, and complete high priority projects related to land management. Travel throughout northern and central Vermont will be required, GMC vehicle available for service related travel. This is a full immersion AmeriCorps position that serves the public and our membership and will lead to a greater understanding of land conservation and stewardship as well as recreation management. Position begins May 30th, 2023, and end by September 15th, 2023. Schedule is flexible. This position is: Quarter Time: Requires 455 hours for an average of 40 hours per week for the term. Member will receive a living allowance of $6,750(pre-tax), and an education award of $1,718.25(pre-tax) upon successful completion of service. Other benefits include health insurance, federal school loan forbearance, and various training and networking opportunities. GMC field staff housing available upon request at Waterbury Center headquarters.

Member Duties : • Monitor Green Mountain Club held conservation easements and fee lands to Land Trust Alliance Standards. • Lead GMC boundary reclamation program on Green Mountain Club conserved lands and Appalachian Trail corridor. • Assist with management and field projects of the volunteer Corridor Monitor Program to monitor conservation easements and maintain property boundaries. • Support the Land Conservation Program to meet Land Trust Alliance Standards and Practices by writing land management plans and updating baseline documentation reports. • Contribute to GMC’s member and public communication channels, including writing articles for the Long Trail News and blog. • Participate in VHCB AmeriCorps Trainings, Service Days, Events, and Program Initiatives. • Engage in professional and personal development activities and networking opportunities
