Northern Woods & Waters Steward - NorthWoods/VHCB

NorthWoods Stewardship Center’s mission is connecting people and place through science, education and action. The Northern Woods & Waters Steward will support multiple departments at NorthWoods Stewardship Center through forest stewardship, sustainable recreation, wildlife habitat, water quality improvement, and environmental education. The primary focus of the position will be to support the Conservation Science Department’s Riparian Lands Program through seed collection, processing, and distribution efforts for riparian restoration. This position is part of the Vermont Housing & Conservation Board AmeriCorps (VHCB AmeriCorps). The VHCB AmeriCorps program supports the innovative dual-goal approach to creating stable affordable housing opportunities for Vermont residents while preserving the natural and working landscape. VHCB AmeriCorps is a national service program that places members with non-profit housing or land conservation organizations around the state. Position begins April 6, 2026, and ends October 1, 2026. This position is: Half Time: Requires 915 hours for an average of 40 hours per week for the 6 month term. Member will receive a living allowance of $12,110(pre-tax), and an education award of $3,697.50(pre-tax) upon successful completion of service. Other benefits include health insurance, federal school loan forbearance, and various training and networking opportunities.

Member Duties : ·Support the direct seeding project by maintaining vigilance and quality with species identification, location, and data collection ensuring accurate records of data and activities. ·Count seeds accurately and use sensitive measuring equipment ·Engage with members of the public, including school students, in environmental education and presenting on NorthWoods Stewardship Center and the Riparian Lands program. ·Conduct post-program surveys to attendees to assess knowledge gained and change in behavior due to programming. ·Participate in an Independent Service Project under the guidance of VHCB AmeriCorps. ·Participate in all VHCB AmeriCorps Program Initiatives & outreach activities to promote AmeriCorps. ·Engage in professional and personal development activities and networking opportunities.
