Albright College VISTA
Mission: As a diverse community of learners, we cultivate integrity, curiosity, connection and resilience. Vision: Albright College endeavors to be an equitable, sustainable, inclusive learning community and a leader in advancing lives in our dynamic world. The VISTA will help build a comprehensive community-focused approach for the designing, implementing, and evaluating community programs. A crucial task for the VISTA member is to collaborate with the Reading School District’s Office of Equity and Diversity, Parent Outreach Coordinator and family members of students to evaluate the greatest needs of the students and how we can best serve them. The VISTA will expand our capacity for after school programs; Monday through Friday, 3:00-4:00 (Elementary) and 3:00-5:00 (Middle), and further develop ELL strategies and sport through increased parental involvement and community engagement. In Year Two, we are looking to become more active in the schools beyond the typical school day by increasing attendance parent/community based activities in the buildings. Also in Y2, we will continue to have professors volunteer for “Fun Fridays.” This is an opportunity for Albright professors to share their kid-friendly expertise with students on Fridays as a reward for their after school attendance to the tutoring program. This project will assist in seeking financial support for students from the Northeast section of Reading with an opportunity to attend Albright College.
