NH Food Insecurity - Franklin High School

The New Hampshire Food Insecurity AmeriCorps program is a full time VISTA service opportunity. AmeriCorps members serve with community based organizations, youth serving organizations and colleges to build capacity for local communities to address food insecurity. This VISTA Program provides high-impact professional development and training for our VISTA members. Training addresses skills required to carry out the assigned VISTA role, as well as skill-building that will be valuable to the VISTA member in their future professional pursuits. The program is a cohort-based experience that creates the opportunity to learn from peers in the program, to share what is learned in service, and to foster a supportive service year community. Note: start date is flexible

Member Duties : Franklin High School seeks a VISTA member to facilitate access, organize space, report data, and increase sustainability to our Karma Korner, a classroom space where students can access their basic needs (food, clothing, toiletries, school supplies, washers & dryers, etc.). Karma Korner was created to improve school attendance and increase access to food and basic needs for our students on non-school days or week. The VISTA member will collaborate with school staff, the FIRST Robotics Team & mentors, and community partners to create and implement accessibility to Karma Korner and the on-campus laundromat. The VISTA member will be responsible for receiving community donations, creating food bags, collecting data, and organizing Karma Korner for ease of access for students and their guardians. The VISTA member will also work with the Franklin Community Center to assist with the summer meal programing and local food distribution for our students as needed due to the pandemic.
