Baylor University Food Security Initiative VISTA - Weslaco

Hunger is a complex problem that cannot be solved by one single individual or organization, as coordination and collaboration take time and effort and can be difficult with limited resources. The FSI VISTA member will support those experiencing poverty by empowering community members to build and sustain community-based coalitions through the development of operational systems and resources, enabling communities to work together to reduce hunger and sustain food security. The Baylor University Collaborative on Hunger and Poverty (BCHP) provides the expertise and support to foster collaboration. We convene, train, inform and support communities to assess local hunger, and evaluate barriers to food security, in order to become a Hunger Free Community. This is where the BCHP Food Security Initiative (FSI) comes in. The BCHP FSI VISTA project goal is to support communities to think strategically and work collaboratively to develop food security solutions.
