CICOA Nutrition and Food Security VISTA

CICOA's mission is to empower older adults and those of any age with a disability and their caregivers to achieve the greatest independence and quality of life. In this role you will collaborate closely with CICOA’s CSFP (Commodity Supplemental Food Program) Coordinator through a variety of hands on experiences. This is a great opportunity to innovate new ideas for outreach activities and volunteer recruitment at distribution locations to build program capacity. Show off your excellent organizational skills working with older adults and providing shelf stable food options to those in poverty and underserved areas of Indianapolis through innovative outreach and excellent customer experience. The position also offers: -Camaraderie with 10 other VISTAs serving under the Indy Hunger Network umbrella -Team engagement activities, including bi-weekly meetings to discuss projects, socialize, and hear from guest presenters -Mentoring, one-on-one coaching, and professional development trainings -Assistance preparing for life after VISTA (resume review, interview prep, etc.) -Opportunities to serve with leaders in the hunger relief space -Opportunities to work independently and lead on projects. CICOA is located in a beautiful office space on the north side of Indianapolis, with easy access to shopping, downtown, and the popular village of Broad Ripple. Member Duties : The VISTA will: • Improve program participation through outreach and reminder phone calls • Participate and assist in face to face distribution of shelf stable food boxes • Assess distribution process for possible process improvement • Innovate new ideas for volunteer recruitment and fresh outreach activities at distribution locations to build capacity • Improve participation and increase social engagement through home deliveries • Provide an excellent experience to customers by assisting with written communications During your VISTA term, you will be one of 11 VISTA members serving under the umbrella of the Indy Hunger Network (IHN). IHN regards its VISTA members as a cohort moving through a transformational year-long experience. To help you maximize this experience, we employ a VISTA Coordinator to provide mentoring and professional development to the VISTA.
