Associate, VISTA Horizons Student Enrichment Program-HGW

Horizons Greater Washington (HGW) provides nearly 400 students in and around DC with access to award-winning, tuition-free summer enrichment programming with the aim to reduce summer learning loss and bridge opportunity gaps. Students in 1st through 9th grade receive six hours of instruction, five days a week, for six consecutive weeks on the campuses of three independent schools in the metro DC area. In small classes led by professional teachers, our students are exposed to high-quality project-based curricula focused on literacy and STEAM. Swimming and other confidence boosting activities round out a summer filled with new experiences and positive development. On average, HGW students start the school year having gained on average 4–12 weeks in reading and math. Every morning, our students are warmly greeted by Horizons staff at 8:30 AM and begin the day with a hearty breakfast. Students spend half of their day in pursuit of an academic achievement while the other half is dedicated to experiences aimed at furthering their soft skills. Whether it be swimming, touring museums, building robots, or camping, our students are exposed to a rich variety of experiential learning opportunities. The day ends at 3:15 PM when the children board the bus to return to their home school. This position is ideal for an individual seeking rich, professionally rewarding experience in either the nonprofit or education sectors.
