23-24 South Whidbey Schools Farm and Food Educator

The South Whidbey School Farms and its culinary program aim to serve the development of South Whidbey School District students by providing an educational setting where students engage in farming and learn about the connections between food, health, community, and the environment. Since 2014, the South Whidbey School District's student farmers have been growing fresh vegetables using organic practices integrated with farm-based curriculum. The program has over an acre and a half of growing space, including student beds, production and market beds, inclusive sensory and elevated beds, and a developing edible forest space. Over the course of their service term, members develop and expand their farming, teaching, and organizing skills while working closely with the certified farm teacher and the school farm manager to grow produce and support students in hands-on learning, farming, cooking, and healthy eating. Interviews will be held in May and our program begins September 1st. This is an Americorps National Service position. This position is contingent upon funding and open until filled.
