OHA Clackamas Volunteers in Medicine Communications VISTA

This position joins the Oregon Health Authority’s statewide VISTA team. In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training throughout the year, team retreats and meetings, and the support of the team leaders and project director based at the state public health agency. For more information about the Oregon Health Authority VISTA Partnership Program, please visit: http://healthoregon.org/vista. Selections are made on a rolling basis and early applications are strongly encouraged. The Clackamas Volunteers in Medicine (CVIM) Founders Clinic provides primary healthcare to low-income, uninsured adults living in Clackamas County, OR. CVIM patients generally do not qualify for the Oregon Health Plan (Medicaid) and often cannot afford out-of-pocket costs. Many are forced to decide between seeking medical care and securing other necessities, such as housing and food. All care is provided at no cost to the patients by a team of medical and administrative volunteers. CVIM partners with over 50 different organizations who donate in-kind products/services and provide specialty care. Increasingly, the CVIM patient population is comprised of rural, under-resourced, and marginalized Hispanic/Latinx individuals who suffer from undetected, neglected, and chronic health conditions that impact their ability to work and care for their families. This position is in Oregon City, just a few miles south of Portland, which boasts a wide variety of activities and scenic recreational opportunities. With the innovative public health work happening in Oregon, Oregon City is a wonderful place to explore a future in public health! This position includes a monthly gas card or transit pass. The OHA VISTA Partnership Project is committed to building a diverse workforce. We strongly encourage candidates from communities of color, disability, LGBTQIA, and linguistically diverse populations to consider application to our positions.

Member Duties : The AmeriCorps member will expand access to and improve the quality of culturally responsive healthcare and education provided by CVIM. The member will research and develop strategies for effective, bilingual (Spanish/English) marketing communications to promote awareness of CVIM clinic services and spread information on key health issues among economically disadvantaged members of the community. To inform this work, they will collect and analyze data on patient communication preferences to identify barriers and facilitators to accessing health information and services, as well as evaluate culturally responsive care programs within peer clinics. Ideally, this AmeriCorps member will be bilingual with lived experience working with Hispanic/Latinx populations. AmeriCorps members on the OHA VISTA Team serve their communities through indirect service. While our projects have a lasting impact, members have limited contact with clients and work mainly in an office setting.
