Brown University Providence After School Alliance VISTA

The Brown University AmeriCorps VISTA Fellowship is a full-time service opportunity hosted through the Swearer Center at Brown University. Founded by Brown University President, Howard R. Swearer, The Swearer Center for Public Service is a community of scholars, students, practitioners, and community members that work together to build on community strengths and address community challenges. Through the creative capacities of our students, faculty, and community partners we explore, build, and implement collaborative and strategic projects, programs, and initiatives. Our work yields transformative learning and positive sustainable change through collective action. Interested applicants apply for a VISTA position at a local partner organization, state agency, or Swearer Center department to build capacity in organizations fighting poverty. These agencies work in the education, health, arts and/or economic justice sector. Current external Brown University AmeriCorps VISTA placement sites include: Beat the Streets Providence, Breakthrough Providence, House of Hope Community Development Corporation, Inspiring Minds, Providence After School Alliance, Providence Public Library, Social Enterprise Greenhouse, and Youth In Action. Providence After School Alliance (PASA)'s mission is to expand and improve quality after-school, summer, and other learning opportunities for the youth of Providence by organizing a sustainable, public/private system that contributes to student success and serves as a national model. The AmeriCorps VISTA member will have a direct role in seeing that mission through by assisting with the data analysis, assessments, reports as well as supporting PASA’s data information systems. This will enable PASA to evaluate the efficacy of our programs and support us in expanding. Secondary, the VISTA will facilitate PASA’s overarching outcomes approach and a data sharing and reporting system for PASA’s provider partners, schools and youth and families.
