Early Childhood Capacity Building VISTA
 
 
 
This VISTA position is sponsored by the County of Hawai‘i's Department of Research and Development (R&D). R&D informs planning, policy, and programmatic decision-making with data-driven research and collaborates in the development and funding of initiatives seeking environmental, community, and economic sustainability. The County of Hawai‘i is one of four counties in the State of Hawai‘i. It encompasses the Island of Hawai‘i which is very rural with a relatively small population of 200,000. This VISTA position will be headquartered in R&D’s East Hawai‘i office in Hilo which overlooks Hilo Bay on the windward side of the island. R&D VISTA members are part of a team that is enhancing the community’s capacity to collaboratively tackle complex challenges like climate change, energy, equitable mobility, food systems, housing affordability, disaster recovery and resilience, and economic recovery. The work requires a positive attitude, self-motivation, independence, organization, computer and communication skills, flexibility, creativity, curiosity, humility, and the ability to work effectively with people from a wide diversity of social, cultural, and economic backgrounds and experiences. The VISTA assignment is gratifying work that improves the lives of our island’s most vulnerable residents and the VISTA member will develop the ability to work across government and community networks to engage community around wicked problems.

Member Duties : The VISTA member will provide technical assistance to a work group of specialists and early childhood providers to rebuild the economic infrastructure needed restore and expand services. The VISTA member will also be part of a team that develops funding strategies and supports community, private, and public partners to meet the goals established by the work group.
