2022-23 New York State School Based Mental Health VISTA
 
 
 
This position is a part of the New York State COVID-19 Response VISTA Project, which is an initiative to build capacity of several state agencies to improve employment, food security, and economic opportunity outcomes for New Yorkers dealing with the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. The New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) is the host site. OMH has a large multi-faceted mental health system that serves more than 700,000 individuals each year. OMH operates psychiatric centers across the state. OMH also regulates, certifies and oversees more than 4,500 programs operated by local governments and non-profit agencies. Join a team of professionals dedicated to the enhancement of the lives of children and families by identifying the current array of School Based (SB) clinic opportunities. Create a mapping system that will enhance both family and provider knowledge regarding the current service opportunity array. Assist state agencies in the identification of service gapped areas. Selected candidate will have the opportunity to network with a range of state and local level agencies to expand analytic and technical skills for the purposes of future employment. Desired Qualifications: • A bachelor's degree in a human service-related field • Training in database development • Knowledge and experience with the development of excel databases • Clear communication skills in both verbal and written format • Experience with the development of mapping and social marketing • Ability to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders. The project sponsor will provide the assigned VISTA member a bus pass to travel to and from the service site. Member Duties : • Develop an understanding of the range of SB clinic settings, operations, services and programs related to the health, educational and social services systems at the state and community levels. • Identify and collect all pertinent data elements needed for the purposes of documenting all SB clinic programs and associated eligibility requirements. • Assess the current NYS school-based provider network and develop an Excel database to track the SB clinic resources. • Identify the location of each SB clinic resource and complete the created Excel Database. • Map all existing SB clinic services, identify service gapped locations and opportunities for expansion. • Establish a process for maintaining the database and mapping system. • Produce a marketing plan to educate communities and state and local agencies. • Develop opportunities to promote awareness to both families and providers regarding SB clinic resources and continue to maintain database.
