WSU VISTA - Leader position with Wichita State
 
 
 
The VISTA Leader will expand and enhance current project success and sustainability by recruiting VISTA members, orchestrating trainings, maintaining regular communication with VISTAs, tracking and reviewing weekly reports, promoting member success stories and assembling data for reporting. The VISTA Leader will support the activities of VISTAs who are working to alleviate poverty by building capacity in their sites, focusing on education, economic opportunities, and healthy futures. The WSU VISTA Fellows project has expanded to include approximately 18 VISTAs who are divided between two VISTA Leaders. The project provides quarterly trainings and participates in Service Day projects. VISTAs support nonprofits and government organizations in Wichita and throughout Kansas. Housed at Wichita State University, the project is coordinated at WSU Old Town. Wichita, Kansas is a thriving city in the heart of the United States, home to nearly 400,000 Wichitans. As the biggest city in Kansas, Wichita features over 1,000 restaurants, 36 museums, 35 art galleries, 34 golf courses, and 20 live theaters. Wichita has more than nine colleges and universities, including Wichita State University where upwards of 15,000 on-campus and commuter students attend. Wichita State is a regional research institution which offers more than 60 undergraduate degree programs in more than 200 areas of study in six colleges. The Graduate School offers 44 master's degrees in more than 100 areas and a specialist in education degree. Living in Wichita is affordable; the city ranks 9.3% lower than the national average for cost of living. According to Money Magazine, Wichita is in the Top 10 Best Big Cities of the United States.

Member Duties : 1. Communicate regularly and support VISTAs through their year of service. 2. Monitor VISTA activities through weekly report and timesheet management to assure VISTA engagement and effectiveness. 3. Research recruitment opportunities & promote position announcements and site opportunities through various venues including but not limited to: university/colleges, social media, other identified local sources. 4. Help plan and execute quarterly trainings for VISTAs. 5. Assist WSU VISTAs in clarifying problems and creating their own solutions, when necessary, involve the project coordinator and site supervisor. 6. Archive all significant materials created and document procedures for the WSU VISTA Fellows project for easy retrieval and use by future VISTAs, VISTA Leaders and WSU VISTA project staff. 7. Write articles about the VISTA project to share across several mediums. 8. Coordinate Facebook page and maintain communication with colleges and university to promote VISTA opportunities.
