TSC VISTA 2021: Hearts and Hands
 
 
 
The Service Collaborative (TSC) VISTA Program mobilizes AmeriCorps VISTA members to function in organizations, government agencies and educational institutions. Members focus on expanding educational opportunities, ensuring economic opportunity for all and creating healthy futures for the residents of low-income communities. Our goals are to strengthen communities across the state and to allow organizations within them to better provide services to impoverished individuals and families. The Service Collaborative VISTA program has partner organizations in New York State and across the country. During their term of service members, will receive support from our VISTA team at The Service Collaborative of WNY. Our support includes monthly trainings, a social network of fellow members and daily support from VISTA Leaders.

Member Duties : Hearts and Hands is a neighbor helping neighbor organization that provides volunteer services to older adults and the disabled community. Through providing transportation, in-home supports, and companion care, Hearts and Hands helps neighbors in need. The Outreach Coordinator VISTA will recruit volunteers and increase the capacity of Hearts and Hands throughout their service areas. Through targeted outreach, the VISTA member will work to expand the organization’s reach through recruitment of new volunteers which in turn will increase the number of care recipients served. Further, the member will also develop the baseline procedures of recruitment and outreach efforts to focus on the long-term sustainability of the project. The VISTA’s work on this project will allow the organization to serve the older adult population and give them a greater opportunity to age gracefully in peace.
