TSC VISTA 2021:ConnectHome San Joaquin

The Service Collaborative (TSC) VISTA Program mobilizes AmeriCorps VISTA members to function in organizations, government agencies and educational institutions. Members focus on expanding educational opportunities, ensuring economic opportunity for all and creating healthy futures for the residents of low-income communities. Our goals are to strengthen communities across the state and to allow organizations within them to better provide services to impoverished individuals and families. The Service Collaborative VISTA program has partner organizations in New York State and across the country. During their term of service members will receive support from our VISTA team at The Service Collaborative of WNY. Our support includes monthly trainings, a social network of fellow members and daily support from VISTA leaders.

Member Duties : The Housing Authority of the County of San Joaquin’s mission is to provide digital literacy programs to youth at Public Housing sites to narrow the digital divide. The Housing Authority plans to expand these programs to all Public Housing sites and expand the opportunities to adult residents. In 2017, The Housing Authority was awarded a ConnectHome Nation Designation. The ConnectHome initiative is a collaboration between communities, the private sector, and the Federal Government to expand high-speed internet access, technical training, digital literacy programs, and electronic devices to low-income households living in HUD Public Housing units. The Digital Inclusion Coordinator VISTA will work on grants to fund digital literacy programs, develop program materials, recruit agencies to administer programs, and recruit volunteers and teachers to facilitate classes.
