E3:21 Tribal Health Research and Outreach VISTA

This VISTA position will be with the Johns Hopkins University (JHU) Center for American Indian Health, Great Lakes Hub, in Duluth, MN. Founded in 1991 and based in the Department of International Health of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, the Center for American Indian Health supports public health interventions designed for and by Native peoples. The Center has offices in tribal communities across Arizona and New Mexico as well as a Great Lakes Hub serving tribes in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and along the shared border with Canada. With nearly 40 years of collaboration with Native American tribes, the Center supports public health interventions in more than 140 tribal communities in over 20 states. These partnerships have achieved landmark public health breakthroughs credited with saving millions of children’s lives worldwide. The VISTA will work with a team of interdisciplinary social scientists (e.g., sociologists, psychologists, public health scholars), community members, and undergraduate RAs on exciting, private and federally funded opioid public health program evaluation initiatives in collaboration with American Indian tribal communities. Their duties will include participating in public health research and coordinating communications about public health initiatives, to provide the care that will lift native families out of poverty. VISTA member will be part of the Ecolibrium3 AmeriCorps VISTA cohort serving in northeastern Minnesota. Although each member is serving in a unique position, all cohort members will participate in VISTA specific activities such as regular cohort meetings, collaborative projects, professional development opportunities, and trainings. Additionally, cohort members will jointly complete one community service project of their cooperative design.
