* BMVP - Connecting Community to Affordable Housing

The mission of the Housing Authority of Billings is to elevate the quality of life in the Billings community by creating innovative, affordable, and sustainable neighborhoods. Research shows that increasing access to affordable housing is the most cost-effective strategy for reducing childhood poverty and increasing economic mobility in the United States. The Housing Authority of Billings seeks to address these issues by providing individuals and families with safe, stable, and affordable housing options. The organization assists over 3,000 individuals and families with housing assistance and affordable housing, however thousands more remain on the waitlist. Through various partnerships, the agency aims to increase affordable housing options in our community; however, in order to provide more support for and increase housing opportunities for community members, it is imperative that the agency’s goals are communicated clearly. To further community-centered initiatives with goals to improve affordable permanent housing solutions, the agency is planning a rebranding launch and will soon become HomeFront: Partners for a Better Billings. The rebranding efforts will convey that HomeFront is an ally that exists in the fight to reduce poverty and homelessness while offering to provide education and access to housing assistance. An AmeriCorps VISTA member would assist with capacity building activities that help build community awareness of the brand as well as the services provided by HomeFront throughout the Billings community. By improving the ability of the agency to communicate its mission to local stakeholders and beneficiaries, the organization will be better able to expand affordable housing options and provide assistance for families and individuals in need. Increased housing stability and support will reduce the effects of housing cost burden and unstable housing for low-income families, while improving financial outcomes for community members.
