Mercy Corps Volunteer Coordinator - Stone Soup PDX

Stone Soup, located in Portland, Oregon, empowers people experiencing barriers to employment to achieve self-reliance through training for careers in the foodservice industry. Our community is located in downtown Portland, right on the edge of Old Town and the Pearl. The VISTA member placed at our agency will develop Friends of Stone Soup, a program that connects individual or group volunteers to opportunities that support the training of low-income individuals for their future careers. AmeriCorps VISTA members perform only indirect service; interaction with clients will be limited and the member will spend the majority of their time in an office or serving remotely. However, the Stone Soup VISTA member will play a dynamic role in alleviating poverty by creating the formal Friends of Stone Soup volunteer program including the development of volunteer policies and procedures (handbook), formal training, new volunteer opportunities for individuals and groups, job descriptions, outreach material, including content for social media and other print material, as well as volunteer recruitment, retention, and appreciation. As a Stone Soup VISTA you will be part of a larger cohort of AmeriCorps VISTAs coordinated by Mercy Corps Northwest. Because selections are made on a rolling basis, early applications are strongly encouraged.
