Braveheart AmeriCorps Mentoring Program

The Braveheart AmeriCorps Mentoring program (BAM) is a unique civic service opportunity that is focused on the mentorship and support of youth aging out of the child welfare system into adulthood. Often times this vulnerable population of young adults can face societal and systemic pitfalls that can adversely impact their ability to develop a strong foundation of interdendent living skills such as employment, housing, education and wellbeing. The BAM program will be comprised of service members who will utilize a personal skillset of lived experience in youth serving systems in an effort to provide relatable relationships rooted in healing and hope, while focusing on achieving a youth designed goal in an effort to lift up the notion that youth voices needs to be heard and supported. The BAM program will be comprised of 6 sites across NYC and the Hudson Valley and will provide positive peer groups for mentees known as motivational meetings. Members will have opportunities to network and learn from fellow members across the sites and participate in Mentor Circles which provide a safe space for mentors who face similar experiences to learn new skills, share stories, innovate personal and professional development, all while building a strong community of service members.
