Baker Ripley Community Engagement VISTA

About 1 in 5 Houston adults is considered illiterate, experiencing difficulty in completing tasks such as filling out job applications. The goal of the Houston Adult Literacy Project is to build the capacity of adult education and literacy organizations in Houston, which support low-income, low-literacy adult learners to help them to obtain and grow the skills they need to become self-sufficient and improve their quality of life. Act against adult illiteracy by serving with BakerRipley as a Community Engagement VISTA. BakerRipley is the largest charitable organization in Texas and hosts a network of over 70 service sites that helps more than half a million people each year. Baker Ripley believes that neighborhoods are the bridges between individuals and the regional economy. When underserved neighborhoods are strengthened, the quality of life is raised for everyone not just in that community, but the entire region. They fulfill their mission to bring resources, education, and connection by working with neighbors, side by side.
