CoF United Way Volunteer & Marketing Coordinator

The AmeriCorps VISTA program in Fairbanks is housed through the City of Fairbanks (CoF). This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, for 1 year. VISTAs receive a monthly living allowance of $1,333 which is paid bi-weekly. At the end of service, they also have the choice between an education award of $6,345 or a cash stipend of $1,800. The VISTA will work directly at United Way of Tanana Valley. United Way of Tanana Valley connects people with resources to achieve a strong, flourishing community. The two primary ways in which United Way assists their community is through volunteerism with the Volunteer Action Center program and through fundraising. United Way of Tanana Valley responds by coordinating a Volunteer Action Center and fundraising on behalf of partner agencies in the community through the Community Care Fund and the V.A.C. This allows partner agencies to focus on everything from homelessness to nonviolent living to youth mentorship. Each year, United Way launches workplace campaigns at corporations and organizations in the Tanana Valley, rallying donors, coordinating exciting fundraising events, and spreading the word about United Way’s mission through community outreach. As a small operation with only three staff members, there is always plenty of work to do in building United Way’s capacity to support their community. Fortunately, Fairbanks has such a reputation for helping one another that it has earned the nickname “The Golden Heart of Alaska.” United Way looks to tap into that solidarity to raise funds for those in need. The goal of the United Way of Tanana Valley Volunteer and Marketing Coordinator VISTA is to help provide vital capacity building for United Way to strengthen, engage, and establish relationships with donors through fundraising in the Tanana Valley community.
