Fairbanks Youth Homelessness Demonstration VISTA
 
 
 
The Fairbanks Youth Advocates operates The Door, the only youth emergency shelter in Interior Alaska and is one of the organizations that will be assisting with the development of Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program (YHDP) projects. The YHDP is a federal program that encourages organizations to try innovative housing interventions for youth experiencing homelessness. The YHDP projects are collaborative projects that are strongly influenced by transitional age youth with lived experience in homelessness. The YHDP is new to Fairbanks, however the CoF Fairbanks Youth Homelessness Demonstration VISTA will be in the second year of this position and will have a vital role in continuing and ensuring the implementation of viable YHDP projects. This is a volunteer service position with a living allowance of $1,333 per month and an annual education award of $6,345.

Member Duties : 1. Assess current efforts toward local anti-poverty youth programs 2. Research successful YHDP projects and best practices in youth homelessness services. Make suggestions for implementation of locally sustainable projects in Fairbanks 3. Recruit youth and youth organizations to participate in YHDP planning and implementation 4. Assist with the Fairbanks Adolescent Action Board in the development, articulation, and promotion of YHDP project 5. Facilitate and coordinate YHDP planning sessions 6. Raise money by exploring local, state, and federal grants; planning community fundraisers; and exploring other anti-poverty funding sources
