* BMVP - Expand Online Art Education

The Yellowstone Art Museum (YAM) exhibits, interprets, collects, and preserves art, for the enrichment, education, inspiration, and enjoyment of all. Research shows that art has a significant impact on innovation, critical thinking and decision making-and that children who are exposed to consistent and interactive art education from an early age are more likely to carry these skills forward with them into the job market as adults. In the past year, the YAM provided art education to over 8,000 contacts in schools, at the museum, tours, within the community, and online. Due to COVID-19, access to art programming and educational opportunities has become even more crucial yet challenging to provide. Many museums have had to transition their educational programming and community outreach to virtual formats-many adapting to platforms they have never relied on. It is imperative that the YAM continues to reach the community and be adaptable in the process of creating and improving the virtual resources and services they provide by creating dynamic and versatile virtual arts programming and making it easily accessible to low-income families. In order to improve the resources needed to meet the evolving needs of the community, a VISTA Member will design sustainable action plans for implementing new arts programming-adapting it to virtual platforms and training museum staff / volunteers on best practices in implementing virtual services. In order to expand the reach of programming, the VISTA member will work with community partners to identify existing gaps in virtual arts education and cultivate opportunities that are culturally relevant. This project will alleviate poverty by connecting community to the arts and teaching valuable life-skills crucial for achieving success in school, work, and life. “There is a need for art that emphasizes our essential interconnectedness rather than our separateness. Art that evokes the feeling of belonging to a larger whole.” Suzi Gablik
