Opportunity Council - NWYS - Community Engagement VISTA
The primary program requiring the VISTA position support is ‘The Ground Floor,’ a location-based outreach program in Bellingham, WA. Typically, 60-90 youth access this space every month, seeking survival items, a safe place to rest, and trusted adults. The program is repeatedly asked for basic needs items that are not donated in high enough quantities, such as underwear, bras, socks, hygiene supplies, sleeping bags, winter coats (seasonal), and other necessities. Additionally, there is desire to set up an ongoing food donation relationship so fresh meals can be prepared in the space. The VISTA will work both with program staff and with the Development team to create lasting resource provider relationships and volunteer relationships. This includes engaging individuals with expressed interest in volunteering, working with program staff and volunteers on an ongoing basis to meet agency-defined needs, and building capacity to work hand-in-hand with the business community and reduce waste of tangible resources. The Opportunity Council VISTA Cohort in Bellingham includes monthly team meetings, Professional Development opportunities, fun team-building events, and 4 annual Days of Service.
