VRLC FT Environment Educator & Recreation Instructor (NWSC)

The Vermont Rural Learning Collective (VRLC) is a statewide AmeriCorps program that places members with educational non-profits in Vermont’s most rural communities. VRLC members expand their Host Site’s capacity to deliver meaningful educational programs and services for underserved learners of all ages. Members engage directly with their community through creating and leading educational programs, recruiting and managing volunteers, supporting outreach and marketing efforts, and assisting with conservation and food security initiatives. VRLC is a learn-by-doing program designed to support members’ personal, educational, and professional growth. Throughout the service term, members receive hands-on training, mentoring, networking opportunities, and professional development to prepare them for future careers in education, non-profit leadership, and community service. This position is based at the NorthWoods Stewardship Center in East Charleston, VT, a regional leader in outdoor education, land management, and conservation. The member will support NorthWoods’ educational programming by assisting with curriculum design, preparing and leading outdoor learning activities, organizing and maintaining program materials, and helping with meal preparation and group logistics. The member will also engage in conservation projects, which may include trail building, habitat restoration, and outdoor recreation support such as cross-country skiing or paddling programs. The member will be supervised by Andrew Cappello, Education Director, and will gain experience in program delivery, youth development, group facilitation, and outdoor leadership. This position requires maturity, motivation, and the ability to serve in physically demanding conditions. Applicants should have strong communication and leadership skills, a commitment to working with youth outdoors, and a passion for environmental stewardship.
