24-25 McLean County HFH - Housing Action Corps - Grants

The Grant Writer VISTA will serve with Habitat for Humanity of McLean County in Bloomington, IL from August 2024-2025. Habitat for Humanity of McLean County (HFHMC) is part of the Housing Action Corps, an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. Housing Action Corps members receive custom training, support, and networking opportunities in housing and community development, in addition to the traditional benefits of AmeriCorps VISTA. Learn more: housingactionil.org/americorps. HFHMC brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope. Since 1985, we have alleviated poverty and promoted community development through the construction of affordable housing in McLean County, Illinois. In 2024, we will be constructing our 200th home. The Grant Writer VISTA will develop a grant writing program and apply for grants to help HFHMC build our capacity to serve more families. By creating a sustainable fundraising model, the VISTA will allow HFHMC to better address the shortage of affordable housing in our communities for years to come. Our ideal candidate possesses excellent communication skills (particularly, written communication), attention to detail, strong research skills, time management, organization, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively. Previous grant writing experience is highly beneficial! This position offers a $500 monthly housing stipend and 30% discount at the Bloomington ReStore.

Member Duties : With rising construction costs outpacing donations, HFHMC is seeking new avenues to generate revenue to continue serving our community. By locating and securing grant funding, the Grant Writer VISTA will increase our construction capacity in order to partner with more local families. They will develop a grant writing program, apply for grants, and ensure the program is sustainable after the service term ends. The VISTA will analyze our grant writing process, research and create a grant database, and complete grant applications with Habitat staff support to secure at least $50,000 in grant funds. They will establish data management practices to fulfill existing homebuyer grants, apply for newly identified grants, and empower HFHMC staff to improve data collection in real time.
