Fontana Adult School is located in the City of Fontana, San Bernardino county. The city is located in what is called the Inland Empire, which covers aresa of San Bernardino and Riverside. Fontana has various parks, and recreational areas, and is uniquely located by 3 major freeways. It is a developing city in the Los Angeles basin. Fontana Adult School (FAS) is a Fontana Unified School District site primarily serving adult learners in the city of Fontana, however, adult learners from anywhere are welcome to attend. Our mission is empowerment of students for success in college, career, and life. We expect all students to achieve the following outcomes: Set goals, identify personal, educational and workforce goals. With guidance, develop and implement action plans to achieve their goals Interact collaboratively with diverse learning communities Achieve skills - obtain academic and technical skills required for post-secondary education, the workforce, and civic readiness. Be self-directed, critical thinkers Learn independently and interact collaboratively within complex learning communities Demonstrate and apply learning - apply acquired skills and knowledge Advance to post-secondary education, military service, or enter the workforce Act as responsible citizens by contributing to the well-being of the community Respect diverse views and backgrounds. VISTAs will help perform tasks that focus specifically in the following areas: Economic Opportunity -Serve as liaison between companies that are offering jobs in the local community and our students -Empower low-income students with information regarding the local job market Education -Recruit mentors to help students prepare for college -Organize field trips to local colleges and universities -Provide resources to students about job training, internships, externships Healthy Futures -Bring guest speakers to talk to students about healthy living -Help organize health fair
