4-H VISTA - University of Georgia State Office 1

This position is part of a larger project to increase capacity and the ability to reach youth in Georgia 4-H, specifically rural areas of the state characterized by high poverty rates, low high school graduation rates and other social challenges. The mission of Georgia 4-H is to assist youth in acquiring knowledge, developing life skills, and forming attitudes that will enable them to become self-directing, productive and contributing members of society. Georgia 4-H, part of the world's largest youth development organization, is preparing the citizens of tomorrow by building youth/adult partnerships, providing Youth Academic Service Learning opportunities, and giving youth essential experiences. Our programs are offered to youth at minimum or no cost without regard for ethnicity, race, national origin, sex, religion, or ability. Georgia 4-H seeks VISTA members to help youth make their best better as they grow out of poverty and become tomorrow's leaders. This VISTA position will be located at the State 4-H Office on the University of GA campus in Athens and work to increase capacity and marketing of the total 4-H program in Georgia through the development of volunteer services. In this role, you will play a key part in developing a stronger organizational infrastructure and sustainability through volunteer outreach, marketing, educational training development and public relations. Throughout the year-long journey, the VISTA member will gain invaluable experience and keen insight into the operational aspects and inner workings of a nonprofit organization supported on the county, state and national level. You will also have the opportunity to work with VISTA members in other counties across Georgia who are committed to serving youth in the most impoverished areas of our state.
