***Midcoast Youth Center- Public Health - Bath, Maine

Midcoast Youth Center (“MYC”) is a non-profit organization located in Bath, Maine. Our mission is to empower Midcoast youth to be healthy, engaged, and resilient, by offering recreation, education & enrichment, leadership & life skills, referrals to mental health support & substance use treatment, and support to youth experiencing housing insecurity. Our vision is a suicide-free Midcoast community where the physical and emotional needs of youth are met through comprehensive programming and social services; where youth are inspired and equipped to realize a promising future. The program, Waypoint, is a six-year mentoring program that focuses on increasing resiliency and raising aspirations for cohorts of up to 20 students in each grade level from grade seven to twelve. This program, that serves youth in the greater Bath area, focuses on providing mentorship, experiential learning, and using outdoor adventures as catalysts for self-discovery, leadership development, and increased aspirations. More information can be found by going to www.midcoastyouth.org. Public Health AmeriCorps program places members with community organizations in Maine to address CDC-determined public health needs for the most underserved populations. Goodwill’s PHA program specifically places 20 members in schools and nonprofits to support youth who have been impacted by Adverse Childhood Experiences. PHA members work with community partner agencies to develop and carry out localized, evidence-based interventions, directly serving youth while increasing organizational capacity. Throughout their service, members gain the experience and training needed to prepare them for entering the public health and youth development workforce.
