Nevada Statewide Coalition Partnership AmeriCorps Program
 
 
 
The economic opportunity education of financial literacy is a program of Junior Achievement (JA) that is dedicated to giving individual's the knowledge and skills to own their economic success, plan for the futures, and make smart academic and economic choices. The NSCP AmeriCorps Program places a great emphasis on member training, supporting members in the knowledge and skills they need to conduct the specific activities outlined and developing the members personally and professionally so they can use this experience and service year as a foundation for next steps. First, the AmeriCorps members will attend a Pre-Service Boot Camp that will bring the members together in Pahrump, Nevada for 5 days. At this pre-service boot camp, members will have an outcome based orientation that helps them walk away with a greater understanding of the several position specific training that will prepare them for their specific duties. These include, 40 developmental assets or Junior Achievement Personal Finance training, Mental Health First Aid a national program, SafeTALK training and CPR/First Aid. AmeriCorps members will understand Allowable, Unallowable and Prohibited Activities and a list of prohibited activities will be provided to the members as well as an activity that covers different scenarios that members may encounter in their term of service. AmeriCorps members will have a meaningful service experience in many ways and will have obtained the financial knowledge to build their economic opportunity in financial literacy that will enhance their communities and the people they serve.

Member Duties : The AmeriCorps Community Opportunity Worker(COW) of financial literacy will assist with coordination/leading financial classes, connect community member(s), low-income individuals to resource's at community or school level. Members will partner with local agencies, develop curriculum based on needs of community. Members will be required to plan, participate in 3 services days. September 11, 2017 Day, Martin Luther King Day, Make a Difference Day (Oct). Service areas are Nye, Esmeralda, Lincoln, Storey, Mineral, Lyon and rural Clark Counties, Nevada. Member is 1700 hours full-time (8 hours/wk.) Living allowance, $12,630 ($549.13 Gross 5th and 20th ea. month). Eli Segal Education Award of $5,815 upon completion of term of service.
