Douglas County UGA/Georgia 4-H AmeriCorps State

Georgia 4-H is a unit of the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Cooperative Extension. The Georgia 4-H AmeriCorps program is managed by faculty and staff at the Georgia 4-H State office. The program provides 32 AmeriCorps State members throughout Georgia to deliver research-based positive youth development programming (PYD) to students aged 9-19 to assist them in acquiring knowledge, developing life skills, and forming attitudes that will enable them to become self-directing, productive, and contributing members of society. This includes interventions aligned with the Georgia Performance Standards, covering topics such as STEM, career awareness, and public speaking in 32 counties in Georgia. AmeriCorps State members provide direct services to youth in all areas of 4-H programming. This includes in-school educational club meetings, 4-H Project Achievement, summer camp, judging teams, community service projects and more. Members collect and track data related to the program’s performance measures in the following programs: in-school educational club meetings and the 4-H Project Achievement process. This includes both numbers served (outputs) and the benefit received by the participant (outcomes). Outcomes include youth experiencing a change in knowledge related to content presented during club meetings, a change in knowledge of best practices in public speaking, and a change in confidence related to public speaking. Members also track the number of volunteers they recruit and the hours that those volunteers contribute.
