Member Duties : Manchester is NH’s largest city, with a population of 110,000. There are 8 neighborhoods where at least 20% of the residents live below the poverty line and 3 neighborhoods where at least 40% of the residents live below the poverty line. For kids growing up in these areas college can often seem like another planet, despite having three universities in their city. The primary focal point of our service-learning program is to get SNHU students into these federally designated “vulnerable” areas so that the kids growing up there can spend high-quality time with college students. The VISTA at SNHU will help us build capacity in our service-learning program, providing more opportunities for mentorship between college students and children in Manchester. Our VISTA will also train all service-learning coordinators so we can ensure our student staff know how to interact in ways that will increase the chances that children will see college as an option.
