American Conservation Experience (ACE) CREW Program
 
 
 
Offered as an advanced, long-term opportunity to earn significant practical and environmental work experience, Members will spend approximately 26 weeks participating on complex trail construction, forestry, and environmental restoration projects under the guidance of ACE’s most highly skilled staff members. All work is physically demanding, often requiring stints in the backcountry and/or extended stays in the field. This position requires hiking, backpacking, camping and cooking outdoors while at front country and wilderness spike camps. Members will also be expected to serve as ambassadors of ACE and citizens of their local community by participating in a volunteer in a local service event at some point during their 6 month term. (see VSP- Volunteer Service Project) Projects throughout the 2021 season will take place at various locations throughout California. All participants must be flexible and willing to be assigned to a variety of locations and for multiple agencies, wherever community need is the highest. Flexibility is necessary for locations during days-off, as you will spend days-off in potentially housing locations and time-off on project sites. Member Duties : ACE Corps Members serve in professionally supervised teams as they explore future outdoor careers, learn practical field skills, and develop confidence as emerging leaders in the field of conservation. Members are provided opportunities to learn and train under the guidance of professional mentors within ACE, while gaining invaluable career perspectives working alongside staff from the National Park Service, US Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, US Fish and Wildlife Service, and many other stewards of our nation's public and tribal lands. ACE Members will become proficient in environmental stewardship practices, general worksite safety, Leave No Trace principles, brushcutter use, herbicide application, and resume building. ACE projects typically include: trail construction and maintenance, invasive species removal, habitation restoration, fence installation/repair, dry and wet stone masonry, forest management, fire fuels reduction.
