DCBOH PH Workforce - Public Health Educator
 
 
 
The DeKalb County Board of Health (DCBOH) Public Health Workforce Initiative aims to increase the public health workforce by providing opportunities for learning experiences and on-the-job training to advance more equitable health outcomes for underserved communities in DeKalb County, Georgia. Members will work with DCBOH's program staff to learn how to manage and operate public health-related programs that will help meet communities' public health needs by providing capacity, support, and increased awareness of COVID-19 testing and vaccinations. The members' roles and responsibilities will focus on community engagement, health promotion, and support and direct services. This is a three quarter-time position, living allowance of $13,110.00, 1200 hours during the service year, 25 to 30 hours per week, and a college graduate is required. The MORE program is comprised of Public Health Educators who work closely with pregnant mothers and mothers with children under one. The goal is to provide support and resources to expecting and new mothers to prevent infant mortality. Staff is trained in nutrition, health and wellness, Ages and Stages of Development, and Safe Sleep techniques. The staff is also Doula certified. They provide a series of classes throughout enrollment. They conduct patient/client/ intakes, participate in team planning, and perform interventions. They serve as a liaison for all social service needs. They also provide case management to prenatal and postnatal mothers. Staff members provide education and resources to expectant mothers through locating and utilizing all community resources including legal, medical, financial assistance, and other sources. They also develop, prepare, and coordinate grant-related activities and deliver information, regulations, and training about the Child Passenger Safety program.

Member Duties : AmeriCorps staff will be trained to provide case management for new and expecting mothers. They will also collect, enter, and analyze data regarding the MORE program and its deliverables. They will learn how to organize Outreach and Awareness events in the community. DCBOH staff will assist in identifying priority areas with high infant and maternal mortality. AmeriCorps staff will be able to be trained to will a variety of classes, including Car Seat Safety, nutrition, Safe Sleep, and financial literacy. These Public Health workers will increase the capacity to assist these young mothers and provide a safe space to discuss challenges. Staff will work to build additional partnerships with public, civic, professional, and volunteer agencies.
