WSU AmeriCorps: Children First Educator
 
 
 
Children First: CEO Kansas Inc. is a 501(c)(3) social service non-profit organization in Wichita, Kansas, with a mission to support students to feel safe and empowered, so they can learn and thrive, by staying in school and achieving in life. The AmeriCorps Educator will assist Children 1st in building capacity to support social, emotional, academic, and workforce skills for low-income, mostly minority students in its garden STEM program.

Member Duties : 1) administering/testing designed curriculum in the education garden and teaching kitchen and 2) assisting students in learning skills to address food insecurity issues (planting, growing, harvesting, eating or preserving food). The Educator will 1) test curriculum by working directly with students providing hands-in-the-soil experiences as well as teaching how to prepare the food; and 2) work with volunteers for any community/volunteer events, in the garden, and other events. No gardening or culinary experience is needed.
