23 VISTA Arizona Serve - YMCA - Academic Program Coordinator
 
 
 
The Prescott YMCA of Yavapai County is a non-profit organization serving the needs of the community for more than 45 years. The COVID-19 pandemic shined a light on the gaps needed for youth in the community. Quite simply, students are behind and the recreational based summer and afterschool programs run by the YMCA needed to evolve. The YMCA continues to make learning a top priority for our youth, as it expands to an underserved area to multiply its impact. They have also expanded its meal programs for children to ensure that they receive as many as three meals per day, reaching youth whose families may be impacted economically by the loss of a job or income at this time. The AmeriCorps VISTA member will foster an infusion of academic programming into the summer and afterschool programs. It is the hope of the YMCA to leverage systems built to address the immediate and long term educational needs to promote engaging enrichment activities for multiple age groups. **Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, please apply immediately for consideration.**

Member Duties : Training: The VISTA member will learn and asses the YMCA’s current educational initiatives created by the first year of programming. They will meet with local school district officials and conduct a robust evaluation of the first location creating an expansion plan. Project Development: The VISTA member will pilot curriculum and bridge lessons into parent engagement activities that can follow the youth home. Project Coordination: The VISTA member will continue to pilot logistics to strengthen programming during afterschool and summer programs, including student schedules, attendance procedures, and evaluation metrics.
