Alabama State University Americorps VISTAs Project
 
 
 
Alabama State University's mission is to provide a nurturing, holistic learning environment focused on developing students, on campus and virtually, to be global change agents. The proposed VISTA project is aligned with the focus areas of education and healthy futures. The AmeriCorps VISTA Program aims to build strong connections between ASU and the larger community through public service and collaborative partnerships. The overall goal is to educate the community on drug abuse, domestic and/or sexual abuse, and health disparities. In addition, the focus is on increasing the community's and university's vaccination rates and reducing drug abuse, domestic and/or sexual abuse, and overall health disparities within the community. The VISTA project will see to 1. Increase community awareness of drug abuse, domestic and/or sexual abuse, and health disparities by 25%, 2. Increase community conversations about drug abuse, domestic and/or sexual abuse, and health disparities by 25%, 3. Increase vaccination rates by 5% among ASU students and the community, 4. Participate in ongoing efforts to reduce drug abuse and domestic and/or sexual abuse on ASU's campus by 10%, and 5. Assist with ongoing efforts to improve and reduce health disparities on ASU's campus and surrounding areas within Montgomery County by 10%. The ASU AmeriCorps VISTA Program is expected to benefit between 500 - 1000 individuals.

Member Duties : Collaborate with program managers and VISTA members to develop and refine strategies and goals. Assist with planning and executing program activities, events, and initiatives in alignment with AmeriCorps VISTA goals. Facilitate training sessions for members and partners. Collect and analyze data to evaluate outcomes, inform decisions, and improve activities. Prepare performance reports for evaluations. Build relationships with community members, partners, and stakeholders to strengthen programs. Participate in outreach, engagement, and community events. Identify funding opportunities and support grant writing with the Funding Specialist. Help manage budgets and financial records.
