Assistant Project Coordinator

The overall mission of Choosing Healthy Options In Cooperative Education (CHOICE) is graduation from high school for a select set of students in grades 9-11 who have experienced factors in their lives which have undermined success in a traditional academic setting. It is currently in its fifteenth year at Juneau-Douglas High School, a large, isolated, urban high school in Alaska’s capital. CHOICE is a four-teacher, eighty student program which emphasizes community, family contact, off-campus retreats to examine teen issues, hands-on and community-based experiences, service-learning, and closely monitored support for success in academic work. As the AmeriCorps Member for the CHOICE Program you will be responsible for recruiting community volunteers to lead small group sessions, host interns, help with service-learning projects, and plan and facilitate special CHOICE activities such as fundraisers, retreats, class trips, and social events.
