Alaska Service Corps- Crew Member
 
 
 
The Alaska Service Corps (ASC) empowers individuals to foster personal and professional development, through hands-on learning in Alaska. ASC is a statewide non-profit organization with field offices in Juneau and Indian. ASC selects young adults 21-25 years old to complete conservation projects, recreational development projects and safety improvements on public lands throughout the state. ASC programs encourage environmental stewardship as well as promote professional development and personal growth opportunities for its members. Members camp during their entire service in both front and backcountry settings. ASC Corpsmembers work as a crew to successfully complete conservation projects. Successful candidates will be team focused and be willing to put the needs of others ahead of their own. Due to the nature of the position a devotion to serving a cause beyond one’s self is required.

Member Duties : Members will: Follow ASC Risk Management procedures; Follow directions; Perform tasks as part of a cooperative team; Maintain a non-judgmental attitude and sensitivity to others; Be responsible and reliable; Communicate professionally with fellow Crew members, leaders, staff, and public; Perform strenuous work; lift and carry up to fifty pounds; Be able to hike 5 miles in various terrain ASC is a drug-free organization; alcohol and illegal substances are prohibited. ASC is an independent, non-residential program. The crew member must supply his/her own personal outdoor gear and equipment such as a tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, day pack, work pants, hiking/ work boots, personal food and dishes/utensils. ASC will provide the training, tools, protective gear and transportation to projects.
