6 Month - UCA - AYA Success Path Coach
 
 
 
Serving at Alternative Youth Activities, an alternative high school in Coos Bay, Oregon, the Success Path Coach will serve students by supporting them in meeting their educational goals. The member will adapt and deliver weekly curriculum related to math and aquaponics to engage the students in project-based learning. The member will support youth in completing high school, helping identify their strengths using tools such as the National Career Readiness Certification (NCRC), and supporting and guiding them towards the next steps of career planning, work experience and career preparation through some form of post-secondary education. The member will support students in completing service-learning projects at the school and in the community. United Communities AmeriCorps (UCA) engages members in meaningful service to meet critical needs in SW Oregon. UCA projects improve access to community programs in project focus areas of Education, Economic Opportunity, Healthy Futures, and Environmental Stewardship. Members engage clients in their dedicated service project, and then use their experience to recruit, retain, and support community volunteers. Members serve full-time for 6 months, totaling 900 hours for the term of service. Our positions have benefits (education award, monthly stipend, training opportunities, etc). Member Duties : 1) Teach High School Students about the Aquaponic Gardening Cycle. 2) Tutor High School Students in the courses of Math and Science. 3) Lead service learning project distribution of the Aquaponic Garden goods to partner organizations 4) Report on and write lesson plans for Aquaponic STEM projects. 5) Lead a team of youth monthly to provide direct services to homeless shelters and programs. 6) Teach High School students math through real world examples and hands on projects. 7) Report out to staff and teacher meetings on the progress of students through the programs. 8) Provide long term one-on-one mentoring through individualized socioemotional & academic support. 9) Support students in preparing and interpreting results of the NCRC. 10) Provide leadership to a cohort of high school students. 11) Expand student workforce opportunities through partnership development 12) Develop internship and service-learning projects/placements for students to develop job skills.
