Sacred Pathways, Inc. -Volunteer Coordinator

Sacred Pathways is a faith-based organization whose mission is to create a supportive community of outreach, counseling, referral and immediate services and assistance for individuals and families in need by meeting them where they are and empowering them to move from homelessness to hope, addiction to recovery, and sickness to health. Its goal is to build healing relationships that will restore integrity, productivity, and realization of one's full potential as a human being. Sacred Pathways, Inc. is staffed by community volunteers that include two (2) trainees from the Council on Aging, a Lay Health Advisor from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, community service workers from the Work First Program of the Robeson County Department of Social Services and Robeson County Court System, and a recovering ordained Methodist minister who serves as counselor in residence. The crisis ministry has been funded solely by donations until March 2007 when a $10,000 capacity grant was awarded from the North Carolina Office of Minority Health and a $5,000 grant from the North Carolina United Methodist Conference for the purchase of a van for client transportation were received. An additional $500 award from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) was received to expand existing food services. A certified feeding site, Sacred Pathways Inc. serves hot cooked breakfast and lunch meals daily and distributes food boxes on Saturdays and Sundays. Since 2006, community volunteers have provided slightly less than 6,000 volunteer hours in activities related to the mission of Sacred Pathways, Inc. These volunteers have included faith-based volunteers from area church of all faiths, students from the Service Learning Program and fraternal organizations on the campus of the University of NC at Pembroke, community service workers from the housing authority, the judicial system and the Department of Social Services.
