I Woulld Rather Be Reading Family/Student Liaison

I Would Rather Be Reading’s Educate & Elevate Program is an evidence-based social-emotional out of school program. IWRBR’s mission is to create equitable access to trauma responsive literacy support and social-emotional learning to children across greater Louisville through out of school programming. Students are empowered emotionally and academically to engage in positive experiences that will create life-long learners and leaders in their communities. I Would Rather be Reading believes in investing in students through the Whole Child Approach. Our approach understands that students' education and life outcomes are dependent upon their access to safe and welcoming learning environments and rich learning experiences in and out of school. Utilizing Mindful Literacy Curriculum as the focal point for emotional learning students are able to engage in meaningful lessons that create a strong sense of self and empowerment. The IWRBR curriculum was developed to allow students to succeed now and as they grow into adults in the community allowing them to surpass apathy and feel empathy. Educate & Elevate is a community partnership that provides schools and community centers with the tools to make a dramatic life changing impact for students and families. Students are supported during the school year with direct lessons and programming, family support, and enrichment opportunities. This yearlong program, supported by an AmeriCorps grant administered by ServeKY, utilizes the I Would Rather Be Reading curriculum, enrichment on site and in the community, presentations by guest speakers, and opportunities for service to promote in-depth explorations into philanthropic causes, compassion, self-compassion, social skills, emotional regulation, and mindfulness for high needs elementary and middle school age students.
