DPW AmeriCorps VISTA -Office of Strategy and Performance

The DPW AmeriCorps VISTA program seeks to design and implement brand new initiatives and programs using AmeriCorps VISTA capabilities and expertise. VISTAs will have the ability and support to create and facilitate programs that may become a model for other city agencies and cities. The VISTA program will develop and engage in activities that provide job readiness training to prospective and/or current DPW employees. VISTAs will gather data for employee recruitment purposes, conduct assessment of current DPW programs, program effectiveness and community needs, create a jobs training program, including training materials and curriculum to be shared with staff and develop an employee incentive program. The VISTA program will support, develop and implement marketing strategies, new program designs, presentations, college exploration related to STEM education, and access to job opportunities, apprenticeships and mentoring to minimalize some of the contributing factors to poverty. The VISTA program will allow attention to be devoted those high-priority low-income communities, seniors, veterans and youth that have not currently been receiving the necessary support. VISTAs will survey and report community needs and recommendations to build and strengthen the communities DPW serves. VISTAs will recruit volunteers and participate in recycling campaigns, community cleanup days, Mayor's annual Fall and Spring Clean Ups, research and data collection for landfills and communities. The VISTA program will establish a marketing campaign that will help plan, organize and publicize community initiatives that improve the quality of life for all residents, especially those vulnerable and low-income residents. VISTAs will engage in activities that promote clean water drinking, rodent eradication, beautification, the use of DPW 311 hotline for waste management and sanitation services, and water credits for families' personal and community action.
