St Cloud Cath Charities Bldg Futures Prog (VSA) - Initve Fdn

The mission of Catholic Charities is “to build communities, promote family life, and enhance human dignity by providing quality services to meet the physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs of individuals and families of all faiths and beliefs.” In our summer program at Bel Clare Estates moblie home park, we serve the needs of children and youth who often, because of poverty, mobility and/or language challenges, find themselves critically behind grade level expectations not only for academics but also in social and nonacademic opportunities that help them develop a variety of skills equally important to succeed in our society. By providing a supervised space with fun enrichment activities for youth the goal is to help reduce summer academic slide and to provide positive out-of-school activities. Complementary opportunities for positive family engagement will provide participants a greater sense of community and feeling of support for one another and less isolation. Past summer activities have included dance, Zumba, theater, gardening, all of them very well received. Two VISTA Summer Associates will work together in team with the supervisor to develop a curriculum of activities for this summer to apply with the youth in this area.
