NYC VISTA- Family Permanency Services VISTA

ACS’ Office of Employment and Workforce Development Initiatives (OEWDI) provides services that build capacity to connect youth to college support and workforce development programs in NYC. OEWDI programs support youth development for educational and career planning, mentoring, work-based learning, employment and career advancement. These are the four areas where services are being provided. 1. Work-Based Learning / Summer Internship Programs The New York City Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) coordinates two summer youth internship programs that offer public-sector internships in a variety of professional service areas, including but not limited to: administration, legal, financial and computer support. The two programs are- (1) the Vulnerable Youth (VY) Sumer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) and (2) the College Aid Internship Program (CIP). In addition, OEWDI coordinates a third internship program in partnership with the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) called the Youth Adult Internship Program (YAIP+). 2. College Bound and Support Programs (CBSP) Over the last several years, ACS has launched several college support programs customized for foster care youth and coordinated through the city’s foster care system. In 2017, the CBSP was brought under the management of the OEDWI team. Together with the OEWDI team, CBSP provides services that offer youth a variety of options to persist in college and improve their academic, developmental and emotional competencies. 3. Capacity Building Programs In order to assist the foster care agencies to increase their capacity to provide workforce planning into their program portfolios, OEWDI has developed partnerships and programs that offer training, guidance and a coordinated referral process that serve youth in educational and career development services.
