As a VISTA with Ferris State University-Grand Rapids, you’ll partner with the Kent Intermediate School District’s Project NorthStar. Project NorthStar assists at-risk, low-income youth in completing their education. You will continue to bring financial literacy programming and support services to 10 more Project NorthStar sites, creating a culture of financial literacy that will lead to increased economic security and stability for these youth Graduation rates in schools which Project NorthStar operates are between 66-70%, with free and reduced lunch students ranging from 60-79%. The VISTA will be pivotal in aiding students in persisting through high school to increase the percentage graduating. Michigan Nonprofit Association (MNA) is a statewide nonprofit organization that serves its nonprofit members to advance their missions. MNA's vision is that Michigan's nonprofit sector be a vital leader in building and sustaining thriving communities, and MNA believes that active, engaged volunteers are imperative.

Member Duties : • Refine and expand research, and identify activities that will improve financial literacy and stability. • Plan and coordinate financial literacy workshops to improve the financial literacy awareness of participants and families at the in-school and out-of-school sites partnering with local financial institutions and employers. • Develop a service learning project with in-school and out-of-school youth revolving around financial literacy. • Build and maintain resources to increase organizational capacity by creating communications materials.
