Outreach & Volunteer Coordinator

Thurston Asset Building Coalition is a network of social service providers, healthcare agencies, financial institutions, community and economic developers, education, workforce development, faith communities, businesses, and government agencies. We are a coordinator and mobilizer of partners who serve people with limited incomes. We define asset building as the strategies and supports that broaden and stabilize an individual or family’s resources – whether it is income, savings, housing, healthcare, education, or food – so that they may lead healthy, productive, and satisfying lives. We connect partners and community resources that promote opportunities for people with limited incomes to become more resilient and prosperous. We support financial literacy and stability programs for people in poverty. Financial literacy programs include support of AARP Foundation’s Tax Aide program, outreach and education around EITC, a small all-volunteer financial coaching program, and support to our coalition members programs such as Enterprise for Equity’s financial education classes or our home ownership workgroup’s home ownership workshops. We also seek to inform providers and community members about existing community resources that can help people in poverty build their assets – that includes sharing information electronically and through quarterly community events about health care enrollment assistance, career fairs and hiring events, affordable housing, and other benefits.
